PostHeaderIcon Christmas Cards

Nothing says “Merry Christmas” than something given from the heart. I know most of the crafters are thinking decorations and gifts, but for those of us who have embraced Digital Scrapbooking start with your Christmas Card.

I feel Christmas cards have gone a little out of style what with the cost of the cards to start with, then the postage it can get quite expensive.  So save some of the expense by using your digital scrapbook papers, embellishments and pictures and make your own cards.

Here is an example of one I just made, don’t know if I will use this particular one or not, but it is a start and I think it came out quite nicely.

I just love the free kits at My Memories Suite.  If you like Digital Scrapbooking try them out they have both free and paid kits.  This card was made with all free material.

I talk a lot about digital scrapbooking and what can be done with it.  First of all know that it is no different that traditional scrapbooking only you do it on a computer.  While it is true that you don’t need any special program to complete your projects I have found that it is easier with a digital scrapbooking program.

I have used two different ones Smilebox, which is essentially if you want to share your photos with others through email.  The designs are limited.  Not to say it is not a good program, it is, but I found it hard to import other papers and embellishments to the projects.

The other program that I use and love is MyMemoriesSuite.  I started by using just the papers available about a year ago and used the program I already had on my computer for manipulating photos (Microsoft Picture It! Publishing 2001 Platinum [Old Version]).

You can purchase the newer version, but it is over $300.  You can find the older version at Amazon for around $25.00 used.  You could probably find it at Ebay also.

This is just a cheap way to get you started to see if you even like digital scrapbooking.  Some who have done the traditional type of scrapbooking don’t like digital.

Once you decide you like digital scrapbooking you can then decide if you want to purchase a specific program such as MyMemoriesSuite.

Here are some of the pages I have done digitally of my sons wedding.

I started scrapbooking late..my kids were already grown.  So now I have a lot of time on my hands.  So last year I decided to see what all the fuss was about.  I had most of the pictures through the years uploaded to my computer files (another bid to drive away boredom), but they were just sitting there and since I am the only one who sees the computer images what was the point?

So a friend who is in to paper scrapbooking got me started.  I enjoyed it, but you need organizational skills, and lots of different papers, embellishments and whatnots.  I don’t have a lot of room so papers were everywhere and I soon found I took more time to clean up my mess than I did actually making pages.  So I stopped, it was no longer fun.  I am of the firm belief that if something you are suppose to be doing for pleasure is no longer fun, then don’t do it.

But I still had all these albums, and stuff!  Some of it I gave to my friend, but I still had a lot left over.  Then I read an article online about Digital Scrapbooking and how easy it was.  The pictures were already on the computer, I had a publishing program that I had used to edit a lot of the pictures already, so why not give it a try.

PostHeaderIcon Digital Scrapbooking is Here To Stay!

Digital isn’t something I’ve really gotten into yet…Digital scrapbooking design can be a enjoyable method of using graphics software to showcase photos along with other remembrances for the objective of protecting the moment in time.

Digital scrapbooking tools are essential to get in the modern era of scrapbooking that has long been a popular activity of many people throughout the generations. Tools in the previous years have been obvious: scissors, possibly some scotch tape along with a book into which pieces of interest might be placed. Parents maintained photo journals of their children and family members. Some athletes kept a similar journals of their exploits about the arena and adolescent women loved to scrapbook their most favorite idols of stage and screen. But all of the previous scrapping booking guidelines have been thrown out the window with the introduction of digital technologies.

Digital scrapbooking is very uncomplicated. Go ahead and take photos that you would like using a digital camera and download them to the laptop or computer. If an individual has a traditional SLR 35mm camera, the film will get developed and then your photos could be scanned and downloaded. As soon as they are downloaded, the photos may be changed in several ways by making use of digital software. That which was once a simple photo could become something which appears like something out of a favorite publication, particularly once the individual learns how to operate the a variety of digital scrapbooking tools that are offered. These freshly reassembled photos may then be produced and put into attractive bound books specifically created for this function or may be delivered via the internet to family and friends .

Scrapbooking is not only an enjoyable (and addictive) pastime — it can be a method to protect treasured memories. But there is no need to select Scrapbook Themes just simply because they’re popular or can be bought in a pre-packaged package. It’s more significant to select the memories which you feel are worth the additional work of protecting within a scrapbook which will last a life-time then figure out from that just what the scrapbook style ought to be.

You may come across with various definitions of what a scrapbook is. And you may even have set one for yourself. But you see, of all those meanings associated with scrapbooks, there will always be one thing central to it- keeping memories.

Just like photos, scrapbooks are keepers of precious moments that you would always want to return back to. The moments that you have captured in photos and the moments of your creativity, deeply embedded in every page, note, captions and journals in your scrapbook.

One day, you’ll take a look at the scrapbooks you have created and they will deliver you back in time.

Not all of us are avid scrapbookers. Many may not even have tried starting one. However, we all have an idea of how to preserve our past. Well, scrapbooking is like that, only you would have to add up some creativity and art concepts into it.

The hardest junction might be to start from scratch. Scrapbooking may look simple for some yet the hours and the ideas you have to invest on them are so enormous that many find themselves initially frustrated. Or possibly, on wits end before an idea crops up.

We have prepared some guidelines in here that you may modify and apply in your own experiences. Basically, this is just a collection of ideas that will help shed light on the thoughts bugging in your mind.

Somehow you have to know your own style.

PostHeaderIcon Digital Scrapbook Pages

A Day In The Life Of Gizmo

Once making a scrapbook was confined to paper, pen, pencils, and any scraps of paper you found that related to the picture.  Now there is a whole new world out there for those of us who like to embellish our pictures.

Scrapbook stores have popped up around the country to instruct people in the different materials and methods you can use to make a page.  Ideas are shared and clubs are formed.

The problem I have, and many others like me, is that I don’t have the time to go to a store and sit for a couple of hours.  Not that I don’t enjoy people, I do, but to cart my scrapbook “stuff” around in the car is not making the best use of my time.  Not only that but the expense can be a killer!  And I am on a fixed income.

So how did I remedy my problem?  I love scrapbooks but I don’t have room for all the papers, embellishments and all other materials needed to make a good page.  A couple of years ago an online friend at one the many forums I belong to mentioned digital scrapbooks.

All you really need is a good photo editor program such as Photoshop, Paint or in my case Microsoft PicturePlus, a scanner and a good digital camera.  All of which I already had.
